Dr Margreet Stegeman is an obstetrician and gynaecologist who is passionate about providing the most appropriate care to women, with detailed counselling of available treatment options, including conservative management, medication, and/or surgery.
Born in the Netherlands, Margreet completed her medical degree at the University of Nijmegen. She began gynaecology training in Groningen in the Netherlands and concluded this at the Royal Women’s Hospital in Melbourne in 1999.
She and her family loved their time in Australia so much, they were compelled to stay. After two years in Armidale, NSW, she moved to Shepparton in 2003. Since May 2012, she has been in full-time private practice.
Margreet set up her first practice at 115 Nixon Street, Shepparton. In February 2016, she established the new Shepparton Women’s Health Centre at 100-104 Corio Street, Shepparton, a multi-disciplinary endeavour close to her heart.
Gynaecological procedures are performed at the Kyabram District Health Service for all public and private patients and at Shepparton Private Hospital for privately insured patients.
Procedures performed include:
• prolapse surgery and repair
• laparoscopy, diagnostic and treatment of endometriosis

In her private clinic at the Shepparton Women’s Health Centre, she covers all gynaecological problems as well as minor procedures such as:
• colposcopy/vulvoscopy and biopsy
• insertion/removal of Mirena and Copper IUD
• taking of PAP smears
• removal of polyps
• endometrial sampling
• pessary treatment for prolapse
• ultrasound scanning
She collaborates with the City Fertility Centre to bring IVF closer to the Shepparton Community.
Margreet has a keen interest in teaching and education. She has previously, whilst working in the public health system, been responsible for the training of specialist registrars, our future gynaecologists. Having transitioned into the private system, Margreet remains an examiner for the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. She is employed by the University of Melbourne as the Extended Rural Cohort coordinator for the Shepparton hub and as a senior lecturer in Obstetrics and Gynaecology for all University of Melbourne students placed in Shepparton. Pursuing her passion in education, Margreet completed a Masters in Clinical Education in 2016.
